The LORD then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.” Genesis 7:1 (NIV)
God had decreed that Noah’s society would be destroyed. It was weighed in the balance of wickedness and righteousness and was found wanting. What a terrible comment on the character of this society! Because of their wickedness, they would be rewarded with the flood of destruction.
On the other hand, Noah had been weighed in the divine balance and was found to be righteous. What a great comment on his character! Noah is a marvelous example to individuals everywhere. His example is a testimony that anyone and everyone can live a godly life in all circumstances. Walking with God is possible despite what others may do; despite what the society believe and practice. Because of his faithfulness to God, Noah was rewarded with grace and deliverance from the wrath of God.
The Divine sentence was pending for approximately 120 years while Noah built the ark. Only three things was left to do: move Noah’s family into the ark, call the animals into the ark, and let the rain fall. So the Lord said to Noah: “In seven days I am going to make it rain. This rain will continue for forty days and nights. It will destroy everything on the earth. But, you are righteous so bring your family into the safety of the ark.”
Dear Father, thank you for the safety of Calvary. Grant that we may live godly in this present world and live eternally in your presence. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
