Glory and Honor To the Only God

“Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Timothy 1:16-17 (NASB)

It was a beautiful day. The early morning sunlight sparkled on the frost. Nolen looked across the pasture in deep thought. He had reached a crucial time in his life. He wondered, “Does my life count for something? When my friends look for examples, do they point to me?”

I don’t know of a better subject today than life examples. Hollywood, advertisers, trendsetters and preachers promote it. But an example can’t be painted on or purchased. And when we are looking for a life to follow, we should choose carefully. In addition, we might carefully consider our own examples before others.

The Apostle, Paul, understood that God had saved him for one reason. He understood the magnitude of his sin (v. 15) and what mercy had been given him (v. 16). But he also understood why he had received it. Note his words, “As the chief of sinners, I found mercy for this reason, so that in me, Jesus Christ might demonstrate his perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in him for eternal life.” (italics are mine).

Dear Father, thank you for demonstrating your patience through Christ our Savior. Empower us to live as examples of love and patience and mercy before others that they may believe in Christ for eternal life. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today and give glory and honor to God,
