Giants and Potholes

We have all we need to be victorious over the giants of our lives. At different points of life we’ve all wondered what to do next. This job or that one? Accept his proposal or not? Leave home or stay? Build or buy? Take out a loan or sacrifice? When David ben-Jesse of Bethlehem didn’t know what to do, he asked God (2 Samuel 2:1). It’s a good example to follow.

The next giant-killing weapon is the Word of God. When “the cares of this life,” like termites, eat away your peace, see what the Bible says. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6 ESV). Giving thanks to God and submitting your requests to him defeats the giant of anxiety.

The next step is don’t confront your giants alone. You are not the first or only person to face such difficulties. Other people have been where you are. Others have asked similar questions. Seek advice from good, strong examples of faith (Hebrews 13:7). Men and women of integrity and character have already struggled with your giant and have defeated it. Seek their counsel.

Yes, it’s true. We have all we need to defeat the giants of our lives. More importantly, we have God. He loves us so much that he provides guidance. “Come unto me all of you who labor and are loaded with burdens. I’ll give you rest” (Mt. 11:28). Trust God. He will lift you out of the potholes of this life. He will give you rest from your burdens.

Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Grant to us the peace of your guidance. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for his Word and live to his glory,
