Full of Light

“No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.” (Luke 11:33-36 KJV)

The phenomenon of human dynamics never ceases to amaze me. It seems that we humans want our points of view verified rather than challenged by any other. I suppose that we might consider it normal to want our curiosities satisfied. Yet, there are more important issues at stake here than simple curiosity.

The purpose of a candle or a lamp is to provide light. When illumination is produced we do not then hide the lamp or candle. Rather, it is prominently displayed so that no one is left in the dark . . . everyone may benefit from the light.

The human eye is the body’s lamp, so our vision affects our whole body. Therefore, our points of view affect our lives. In effect, what we “see” and how we see it influences every aspect of our lives. On the one hand, a whole and healthy vision produces wholeness and health in our lives. On the other hand, an evil vision produces incomplete, evil lives. So, despite our dislike for “should” and “must” and “ought,” it is essential that we analyze and monitor “the light” that illuminates our lives.

“Every person’s way is right in his/her own eyes: but the Lord assesses the heart” (Pro. 21:2). One’s motivation plays a huge role in the issues of sight and life. So, chasing after the crowd is not such a good idea after all. Maybe searching for verifying signs is not the best approach. Perhaps seeking a clear illumination might be a better goal.

Which is better: to create our own light through ideas and opinions OR turn on the full illumination of God’s light? The crowd may validate opinions and satisfy our curiosities, but only the Word of God will illuminate our whole life.

Dear Father, thank you for the light of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Illuminate our lives with the light of your Word so that we may be whole and healthy. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in the full light of God,
