“Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse. Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!” Psalm 150 (NAS)
Do you sometimes wake up in the morning and feel that you have no song in your heart or any joy that you can muster to face the day? So many things demand our time and some mornings we are exhausted before we even began our day.
Those are the times when we should relax, take a moment, pause and think of the psalmist when he penned these words “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Do we realize this includes all of creation? That’s right birds, dogs, cats, squirrels, rabbits, horses, turtles, and yes, you and me. How good God is to remind us every day of His love for us.
Contemporary songwriter David Hodges wrote a song entitled: “Let Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord.” It is a song of thankfulness for all God has and is doing for us. Note a verse and the chorus of Hodges’ lyrics and realize that we should be praising God all day long, even when stressed with the prospects of a day that is just beginning. Maybe, in the lyrics of his song, Hodges gives us a “first thing to do.”
Praise him in the morning,
Praise him in the evening,
Praise him when I’m young and when I’m old.
Praise him when I’m laughing,
Praise him when I’m grieving,
Praise him every season of the soul.
If we could see how much you’re worth,
Your power, Your might, Your endless love,
Then surely we would never cease to praise you.
Everything that, everything that
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
And everything that, everything that
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord
What a great way to begin the day: praising Him for His power, His might, His endless love. The last verse of Psalm 150 says “Let every thing that has breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord”
Praise him in the morning and evening; whether I’m young or old; if I am laughing or grieving. Whatever the season of my soul, today at this very moment may I find time to let my breath Praise the Lord.
Dear Father, we praise you for your grace and mercy. May our lips and lives always honor you with praise and glory. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN
Let us praise God for everything and sing praises unto him,
