Faith: Belief and Action

“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 10:38 – 11:1 KJV)

Faith . . . the lifestyle of righteous people — those who have obtained righteousness through Christ. There is no righteousness found anywhere else (Acts 4:12; 2Cor. 5:20-21).

Faith, however, isn’t some passing fancy in an ideal or possibility. Faith consists of the certainty of reality. Faith holds to that certainty even when it isn’t visible to the eyes. For the Christian, faith is the issue of our lives — our hope.

We have never seen God, yet we are certain that He is exists. We do not believe in the possibility of “a higher power.” We do not believe in the ideal of a Divine Being. We believe in God because we are certain that He exists. We know that He responds favorably to those who diligently seek him (Heb. 11:6).

Righteous people live by this belief, steadfast in hope. They arrange their lives by it, teach their children to believe it, act upon it, and refuse to give up on it. Righteous people are not mindless fools, but we are convinced of the unseen reality of our God and his Christ.

The substance of faith is grounded in hope. It does not enter our In Box by empirical evidence (Rom. 10:17). The evidence of our faith is shown by the actions we implement daily . . . moment by moment. “Now the just shall live by faith” . . . an active lifestyle of convinced trust.

Dear Father, we thank you for that blessed assurance and hope we have in Jesus Christ. Empower us with a greater certainty and stronger faith. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
