Examples of Thanksgiving

“I come to your altar, O LORD, singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders. I love your sanctuary, LORD, the place where your glorious presence dwells.” (Psalm 26:6-8 NLT)

What a marvelous scene! The King of Israel coming into the Temple of God singing his gratitude to the God of the Temple; shouting God’s wonders in worship of the Wondrous God.

What a wonderful example to the people of God. Their leader showing them how to properly worship their God. Examples of worship are what the 21st century Church needs. Most of society’s examples are not of a worshipping, godly sort. This generation of humanity is being led down a rose-colored path that will only result in destruction. Where are the leaders who will stand up and show the people how to worship the True and Living God?

Worship examples . . . who are they? They are not confined to paid church staff or volunteers who direct the worship service at church or synagogue. Leaders include heads-of-households, parents, school leaders (school boards, superintendants, principals, teachers, etc), community influencers (business leaders, celebrities, coaches, athletes, etc), pastors (preachers, rabbis, priests, etc), religious instructors, law enforcement officers, military officers, and elected officials from the village council to the Presidency in Washington. In a word, everyone is an example. We all influence and lead others in some fashion. So we are all responsible for the example of worship we display.

We all come to some form of altar. Our worship is given to the object of our beliefs. Whether we believe in the Triune God or not, we worship someone and something. It is easily recognized in our love. Who do you love? What do you love?

Israel’s King David loved Jehovah. His love can easily be seen in his worship in the place where Jehovah dwelt. He went to Jehovah’s sanctuary because the glorious presence of Jehovah could be experienced there. And King David had no qualms about leading his people in a song of thanksgiving and praise to Jehovah’s wondrous works.

Dear Father, thank you for the sanctuary we have in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Inspire us with all your wonders. Empower us with hearts of gratitude that overflow with telling and singing of your praises. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in your example of thanksgiving,
