“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:1-4 (KJV)
Ted walked across the campus of his new pastorate. In front of the main entrance was a beautiful fountain. The sunlight danced across its surface. The sound was so soothing. The first task Ted performed each morning was to turn on the fountain. The pump would immediately surge into action and the water rushed up the highest tier and began splashing down and overflowing into the basin where the process was repeated continuously all day.
One Thursday, as he went to lunch, Ted discovered that the fountain wasn’t flowing. He checked the pump. It was working. He looked at the primer well. It wasn’t full but it had water in it. He went and checked all the electrical connections. Everything tested fine. What could be the problem?
After a few frustrating moments, Ted noticed a small metal sign attached to the primer well. He read these words, “If the primer well is not completely full, the fountain will not operate.” Ted hurriedly got more water and filled the primer well. The fountain burst into life and began cascading down in its usual manner.
That fountain is much like the Christian’s life. If we are not filled with the Spirit, it affects how we function. But when we allow the Holy Spirit to fill us to the brim and continually are being filled every day, we function exactly like we are supposed to. Like that fountain, when our primer well is full, we will impact the lives of those who come in contact with us.
Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. May our lives and ministries be filled with your Spirit. May we have a positive impact on those we meet each day. In Jesus’ name. AMEN
Let us praise God for who he is and be filled with his Spirit,
