“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, accompanied by the harp and lute and the harmony of the lyre. You thrill me, LORD, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done.”
Psalm 92:1-4 (NLT)
Marie, Joe, and their granddaughter were visiting Mount Rushmore. They looked at the faces of the famous presidents and walked through the gift shop. They read brochures and considered various gifts items for friends and family back home.
Soon they struck up a conversation with one of the park rangers who explained all about the monument and how it came to be on the mountain. Marie watched her granddaughter as she asked many questions. The child was excited and amazed over the simplest things. Watching her, Marie thought about the previous summer when she had almost died in an accident. The family experienced some very difficult days back then. Marie wondered why God had allowed the accident that almost took a child’s life. Her parents had dedicated her to the Lord at birth. She and Joe had always covered their children and grandchildren with prayer. The why was known only to God, so they had continued to believe his Word, prayed a lot, and clung to hope.
Now here they were eighteen months later touring the western states and enjoying the blessing of their grandchild. Suddenly, Marie saw everything with new awareness. The animated actions and simple amazement of the child focused her attention on the minute wonders she had missed. God’s faithfulness was beyond comprehension! Marie became overwhelmed with gratefulness. She hurried to the ladies room to dry her eyes.
No matter what has occurred in our lives over the last year, we know that God is faithful. We learn from our hardships and difficulties. Such experiences add a hearty flavor to life. They enable us to see the minute blessings and empower us with a sweet appreciation for God’s goodness. We only understand God’s ways in a partial measure. But we enjoy his faithfulness fully. O for a song to sing!
Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Lord, you truly thrill us with your faithfulness and goodness. Empower us with a song of joy and enable us to sing it boldly for all to hear. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN
Let us praise God for his faithfulness and live faithful to him,
