Direction

“Trust in the LORD
with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy
ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
In today’s Scripture
passage we are given key conditions to God’s direction for our lives. First,
trust the director. Second, do not rely on limited knowledge. Finally,
acknowledge the director in every facet of life.
The common thread
among humans is the desire for good things in life. We tend to believe that
good things come from God and bad things from someone else. There is a measure
of truth in that, with one possible difference. When those “bad” things occur,
are we leaning on our understanding? Have we not acknowledged him in all our
ways?
Okay, so this may be
a little more difficult than remembering anniversaries and birthdays. Trust is,
in fact, difficult for most humans to do consistently. Acknowledging God is
something many people do every Sunday. Then, the reliance on God falters throughout
the week as we face the myriad events and decisions of our lives. We forget
that we are fallen, self-serving creatures with limited knowledge. We want God
to give us his rubber-stamp-approval and not bother us with his conditions.
The challenge,
however, is this: trust, understanding, and acknowledgement require us to
release our demands and control. I suppose the choice is personal. Direct our
own lives or let God direct us? I prefer his direction. He doesn’t mess it up.
Dear Father, thank
you for directing my life. With my whole heart, I desire your will and kingdom
to be done here in my life. Grant to me the courage to trust you today despite
my limited understanding.  I pray this in
the name of Jesus. AMEN
Expect God to direct
you today,
