“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
St. Matthew 5:3 (KJV)
This is not about material poverty. It is also not about spiritual weakness or immaturity. Being poor in spirit is about total dependence on God. It is about freedom from arrogance and pride. It is about humility.
Individuals who acknowledge their insufficiency before God are blessed to possess the Kingdom of Heaven. When conceit is absent and a humble spirit presides, then we can say we are truly happy and blessed. This attitude, “No problem, I don’t need anybody,” will keep us from enjoying the blessings promised here.
It is by submitting our attitudes before God and acknowledging our inadequacies that we live in the Kingdom of Heaven. Humbly placing our lives in His hands is what true Kingdom living is all about.
Dear Father of Heaven, thank you for your gift of grace. Lord, I humbly acknowledge my own insufficiency. I want you to guide my life and ministry. I admit that I do not know how to live or minister without your direction. Enable me to walk humbly before you in the Spirit and for your glory. I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN
Let us praise God for His guidance and live for His glory,
Pastor Smith
