“I delight to
do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:8 KJV)
In our lives there
are frequent delays. Wait at the bank, at the grocery, in traffic, at the
doctor’s office and in hospital surgery and ICU waiting rooms. Sometimes we
wait for results from important medical tests or school exams.

Do you ever wonder
what is the point of “waiting”? Perhaps God is teaching us to relax
in his timing. Maybe he wants to stop and listen to him. He wants to talk with
us. Possibly, he wants us to consider ways of ministering while waiting. Certainly,
he is trying to teach us something but doesn’t want our waits to become
weights.

Delighting to do is
his will may be the most important issue in this “waiting” business.
All around us, while we are waiting, there are people . . . hurting people . .
. anxious people . . . needy people. Despite our not knowing their personal issues,
they need God to surround them and to strengthen them and to comfort them and
to deliver them. While we wait, what is his will?

When I take note of
my waiting situation, I remember to listen to the Holy Spirit. I usually
discover that a smile or an encouraging word passes the time rather quickly.
The benefit of waiting — doesn’t matter where — is that it offers so many
opportunities to do God’s will. It causes me to stop and ask him what his will
is for me at that moment. And it reminds me that his agenda is more important
than mine.

Dear Father, thank
you for writing your law in my heart. Inspire me that your will may take
precedence in all I do. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
