“I lay down and slept; I awoke for the LORD sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me around about. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God! For you have smitten all my enemies on the cheek. You have shattered the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the LORD; Your blessing be upon your people!” Psalm 3:5-8 (NAS)
Janet walked out into the woods on the back side of her farm. Her world was crumbling around her. It seemed like she was surrounded by impossible odds. Everywhere she looked, there was opposition. The enemy had sat on her shoulder whispering, “There is no help for you in God.” It would be easy to succumb to such discouraging words, except Janet knew it was the enemy who spoke them. So she made her way up to her private altar.
There in the solitude of nature, like King David, Janet “cried unto the Lord” and claimed him as her shield. She claimed his glory as her covering. Then she finished her prayer by insisting in faith that her God had heard her cries from his holy hill.
After returning to the house, Janet went about her housework refusing to be afraid of the enemy’s raging. Throughout the rest of the day, she confidently claimed the sustaining grace of God over her life, her family, and their circumstances. When she lay down to sleep that night, Janet once again asserted that no matter what might come against her, she would not be afraid since Jesus Christ was her salvation and his blessing was upon her.
Dear Father, thank you for the confidence you give. When we are surrounded by impossible odds, remind us that you sustain us. Empower us to rest in you at all times. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today by your confidence in God,
