Confidence

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6 NAS)

When my clock alarms at 4:30 am, it is difficult to see anything clearly in our neighborhood. Yet, I am confident that a pot of coffee is brewed and ready. I am confident that a day spans before me, even though it isn’t daylight. I am confident that hot water will flow and refresh me. I am confident that Bobbie still loves me and will give me a good morning hug and kiss.

That is similar to our lives here in the first few days of this new year. We can only see what today holds, we don’t know about tomorrow. Yet, we are confident in the One whose hand we hold. God sees the end from the beginning. We only see today, but He sees what our lives will be in all our tomorrows.

As we travel across our city, county, state, and nation, we encounter various forms of vision for the future. New highways at various stages of construction communicate a vision to the citizens who use them or will use them. As we sit and wait for traffic to clear, we might remind ourselves that our “suffering” is temporary and better, safer travelling is just ahead.

It is God who gives us vision — not just eyesight — about what he is leading us to achieve this year. He knows what can be achieved, and by Holy Spirit anointing we can do it. His promise to do more than we are able to think or imagine should inspire us to think big and make the Father smile.

Yes, we may endure all sorts of disappointments and encounter all kinds of obstacles — even a few traffic snarls, but to finish the year having achieved God’s vision will be worth it all. Now granted, his vision for our lives certainly is greater than this one year, yet to achieve the portion that is accounted to 2011 is a wonderful goal.

In his record of promises, God reminds us that our future will better than anything we can see or imagine. His promise is that he will accomplish everything he has begun in us. Think about that: because of God’s work in us, we will better at the end than we are now! God gives us his promise to hold in our hearts.

Dear Father, thank you for your vision of our lives and ministries. Empower us with joy and inspiration and confidence to positively move forward toward the goal that you have set before us. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be courageous and confident,
