“Enoch walked with God” Genesis 5:24a (NIV)
As Enoch walked along the creek, he felt a breeze push him gently and he smiled. “Good morning Lord.”
“Good morning, Enoch. Mind if I join you?” Enoch smiled. They had been meeting like this, everyday for nearly three hundred years and still God politely asked this question when he arrived.
“I’m glad you are here. I was waiting for you.” The two turned and strolled leisurely on.
After a short distance, they sat on some rocks and talked about what God wanted from Enoch. God explained the changes Enoch should make in order to achieve God’s purpose in him. As usual, Enoch never considered God’s requests as burdens. He was happy to make the necessary changes. Communion with the Lord was worth it. He had been taking these walks with God far too long to quit now. They had changed his life and were too precious to give up.
The family had long ago given up explaining Enoch’s behavior. His lifestyle was evident for the whole community to observe. Some thought him over-zealous. Others thought he was crazy. Still others considered him a sort of spiritual talisman. When he prayed, God listened from heaven’s throne room. Everyone said, “he walks with God.”
Many of us fantasize about what the “walk with God” is supposed to be like. We imagine all sorts of scenarios. Yet, there is no perfect scenario. The important thing is to be walking with him.
Dear Father, thank you for wanting to walk with us. Grant to us an Enoch desire. Enable us to develop an Enoch lifestyle. Empower us to share an Enoch communion with you. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today in your communion with God,
