“Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” St. John 16:33 (NLT)
All of us desire a life that is as easy as possible. None of us wish for or like difficulties and trouble. Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a Christian, however, is a little like expecting the bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.
“Life is a combination of laughter and tears, sunshine and rain.” – Norman Vincent Peale
Through simple common sense, we know this to be true. Because we are Christians we have a different outlook, and the world around us is a disappointing place, full of many sorrows. Jesus, however, has encouraged us with his promise that he has conquered the world. So, through him we too are victorious. His assurance of victory enables us to persevere despite the troubles and sorrows of our world.
Dear Father, thank you for conquering the world. Deliver us from the temptations and trials of this life. Remind us to live as victorious Christians. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN
Be encouraged today in Christ’s victory,
