“But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19 (KJV)
“Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head;
The stars in the sky Looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.” — anonymous
Most Western believers can not imagine the circumstances under which Mary labored and birthed our Lord. Still, like the majority of mothers, she forgot the last nine months of sacrifice and pain. She soon succumbed to the joy of having a beautiful, precious little child – a boy.
And her son was more than any other boy would ever be. She had experienced certain events that no other woman in history – past or future – would ever experience. She had given birth to the Son of God! It would take her some time to consider the ramifications of that. God had even confirmed the fact to Joseph. And sent those shepherds to find and worship her son.
From Gabriel’s visit with her to her visit with Cousin Elizabeth to this wonderful event, she had contemplated what it would be like to be a mother. And now that her baby was born and quietly sleeping in that manger – now that the shepherds had left – and she had time to think without distractions . . . well it was just more than she could fathom. This was going to require more thought and consideration. It wasn’t that she had any doubts – None at all! It was just that this whole situation was so precious and wonderful that each element would have to be carefully digested and enjoyed. Wow, her son – the Son of God! Who would believe it?
Dear Father, thank for our Savior and Lord. Empower us with confident faith and trust in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Merry Christmas!
