“He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.” John 3:33 (KJV)
We cannot have a greater ministry than we are called to do. We cannot make our purpose and mission to be more than is assigned to us. Why not be content with our divine assignment? The Baptist was a great example of one who understood this principle. John had his assignment as the “voice crying in the wilderness,” and our Lord had His as the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” They were not competitors, but partners in the Kingdom of God.
We must understand when our purpose and mission is complete and ended — when it is time to hand off the work to another. The divine purpose is what we all serve. We will be happier and more gratified when we remember who we are. We are the “witnesses unto Him” in our communities, but He is the Resurrected Savior of whom we witness. We must exalt Him and decrease our popularity.
We minister only by a limited measure of the Spirit, but He ministers out of His divine authority and fullness of the Spirit. His ministry is heavenly and eternal; ours is earthly and temporal. The message is His and we are only witnesses that the message is true. How can it be that Christ’s message could be proven true by one who accepts his message? Generally the Gospel message is so wonderful that many people reject it out of hand. Some of us, however, do accept God’s message and believe it. John says here: by our belief in and acceptance of the gospel of the Kingdom, we attest that it is God’s truth.
Dear Father, thank you for your message of truth. Empower us to so live that your truth is certified by our witness. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
