“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
Consider the setting. Christ looks up to heaven and thanks the Heavenly Father for bypassing the professional office-holders and revealing the gospel unto the ordinary, common people. Then, he surveys those around him, and invites all people everywhere to access the privileges and benefits of the gospel.
The truth of God has been hidden from many who are wise and prudent, those who are eminent as scholars and influencers. Some of the greatest scholars and the greatest statesmen have been the greatest strangers to the mystery of the gospel.
Jesus told Thomas and the other disciples, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6 KJV).
In today’s passage, Jesus invites us to bring our weary searching to him. He invites us to bring all our burdens — whatever they are — to him. And the bottom line? He is able to answer all our questions and solve all our problems. Christ has promised to exchange his peace and rest for our issues and challenges.
Dear Father, thank you for the rest we have in Jesus our Lord and Savior. Enable us to trust you with all our concerns and burdens. In the name of Jesus I pray. AMEN
Be courageous today by taking your burdens to Christ,
