“My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.” Psalm 34:2 (KJV)
Someone complimented Albert Einstein on his intelligence and he replied, “Before God we are all equally wise – and equally foolish.” What an humble consideration! The first thing is to consider ourselves as being “before God.” In other words, seeing ourselves as God sees us. And in his considerations, God sees us on a level of equality that transcends human understanding.
The second thing is to consider that the Only Wise Eternal God considers us all (i.e., each one individually and all individuals collectively) as being “equally wise and equally foolish.” None of us are wiser or more foolish than anyone else, intelligence notwithstanding. Each of us is just as foolish as everyone else in our estimation of how intelligent and wise we are. Each of us is just as wise as everyone else in the knowledge, abilities, and skill that God has instilled in us. Remember, “the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men” AND “God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ” 1 Cor. 1:25 & 27 (KJV)
The real wisdom, however, is that wisdom which Mr. Einstein pointed: we are all before God. The wisdom for which we can boast is that we humbly depend upon the Lord for his wisdom. Therein is true wisdom.
Note that the issue is not about intelligence and education, but about dependence on the Lord for everything pertaining to our past, present, and eternity. Wise men and women make their boast in the Lord! All other boasting is unwise and evil (James 4:16).
Dear Father, thank you for all things. We make our boast in you, O Lord and the wisdom you give! Empower us with the gladness thereof. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today by boasting in the Lord,
