Approval

“To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens! Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the LORD our God, Until He is gracious to us. Be gracious to us, O LORD, be gracious to us, For we are greatly filled with contempt. Our soul is greatly filled With the scoffing of those who are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud.” Psalm 123 (NAU)

“Where could I go but to the Lord?” From the past these words call to 21st century Christians. If we follow this world’s rules and agendas, its approval and accolades are many, but there is only one place we can go for real, unqualified approval. We look to the one who is “enthroned in the heavens!”

In the same way an employee looks to the employer for evaluation and praise, our eyes are turned toward “the Lord our God” for his grace. O how we need his grace! O Lord, how we need your grace! The contempt of this world is overwhelming. The scorn of “those who are at ease” is almost unbearable. The contempt, which the proud display, can discourage the spirit. But one must be like them to get their approval. NEVER!

I will look up to the one who sits on the throne of heaven.

Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for your approval through Christ. Grant to us the fortitude to look only for your approval. In Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN

Let us praise God for his righteous approval and live to his glory,
