Allow God To Direct

“Trust in the
LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your
ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6
NKJ)
I sat in our
backyard swing looking across behind our church at the traffic on US 431 North.
Cars and trucks were zipping past keeping pace with my racing pulse. It was a
peaceful, sunny day and I should have been at peace too. But I was too
distracted by family matters to enjoy any peace.
After ten years
seniority at his present employer, my son Jonathan was seriously considering
another job. The new job’s pay scale would give him a significant increase, but
the new job had one great disadvantage. It began with a one-year contract that
could be renewed indefinitely or terminated at the end of the year. During that
year, he would have to purchase a private health insurance plan for he and his
young son. It was a huge risk!
I whispered, O Lord, give Jonathan wisdom. I know that he
acknowledges you in all his ways and you have promised to direct his paths.
Direct those who will influence him in his decision. And give us peace. AMEN
I got up from the
swing and started toward the house but stopped short. Someone was blowing a
trumpet. It wasn’t close but not far either . . . just loud enough to hear
clearly. It was a favorite melody, and I recognized it immediately. The
trumpeter was playing “How Great Thou Art.” I went back to the swing.
Peace flooded my soul. I closed my eyes and all anxiety left as I enjoyed the
beautiful strains of music.
” O Lord my God
when I in awesome wonder consider all the world thy hands have made. I see the
stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul my Savior God to thee, How great thou art, how great thou
art.” (based on a Swedish poem written by Carl Gustav Boberg; 1859–1940).
Dear Father, thank
you for directing our lives according to your will. Empower us with faith to
follow where you lead. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be strong and
courageous today letting God direct your life,
