All Day Praise

“Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised. The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.” (Psalm 113:2-4 KJV)

I asked my wife, Bobbie, to give me a Scripture passage for today’s devotional. She chose today’s passage and the following comments are hers.

As I looked at the sky this morning, I remembered today’s Scripture passage. There are words of a song that goes like this, “praise him in the morning, praise him in the evening, praise him at noontime.”

We need to make time for praising the Lord from the time we wake up in the morning until we go to bed at night. He is worthy of our attention and worship. Back in the eighties, when we served the Oakridge Church in Calgary, Alberta, one of the church members, Madeleine Price was asked to pray a prayer of praise and thanksgiving. As sister Price prayed, the congregation was noticeably moved because it was evident that she was in touch with the Lord. It was over 20 years ago but her prayer still resounds in my soul.

Just as we need physical food to sustain our physical strength and health, we also need spiritual food to sustain our spiritual strength and health. If we do not care for our souls, we will die spiritually just as certainly as physical death comes to those who do not care for their physical bodies.

Spiritual health is maintained through the worship and praise of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. As we continually fall in love with him over and over again, praising him from morning to night, our desire for more of him grows. As a result of that hunger and thirst, we feed on his Word and learn more of him. Finally, the results of feeding on the Word is spiritual growth, health, and vitality.

Dear Father, thank you for coming to us through Christ our Lord. You are indeed high above all nations and your glory rises above all the heavens. Empower us to praise you in the morning, in the evening, and all through the day. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in your all day praise,
