A Personal Walk With God

“Enoch walked
with God three hundred years” (Genesis 5:22 NKJ)
Imagine you are
walking through an unknown, foggy forest. There is no path to follow and you
don’t know your destination. Soon the forest will be enveloped in the night.
You are not sure if you should continue. Then your walking companion
confidently assures you. “Don’t worry. I know the way. We are almost out of
these woods.”
Do you trust your
walking partner and keep walking or turn around and go back?
It’s a matter of
faith. Everyone has some of it. Everyday we wake up expecting the coffee to be
fresh and the sun to rise; we turn knobs in the shower expecting the water to
flow; turn the ignition in our cars expecting them to start. And so goes the
normal day with things we don’t understand but accept by faith.
I’ve often reflected
on Enoch and his walk with God. I wanted to identify the essential elements of
it so that I could imitate it. Do the same thing, get the same results, right?
I have finally concluded two things. First, we aren’t given enough data to identify
any specific elements. Second, Enoch’s walk with God was a walk of faith and
specific to his personality, circumstances, etc.
The walk with God is
not about a formula for successful living. Walking with God is about a personal
relationship with the heavenly Father. We believe that he is with us and that
he responds favorably to those who desire to walk with him. We have faith that
he leads us through the foggy forest of our lives. We have never seen him, but
we are confident that he exists, as certain as the day and the night . . . the
sun and the moon.
Dear Father, thank
you for walking with me. Strengthen my desire and resolve to walk with you.
This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be strong and
courageous today in your walk with God,
