Truth Or Consequences

“But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves. For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities– his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. The result was that their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they became utter fools instead.” Romans 1:18-22 (NLT)

We live in a world, which is steadily pushing the truth away. It is a world where self-designed morality runs rampant and knowledge of God is not desirable. Paul, the Apostle, explains it in today’s passage. People who push the truth away from themselves, despite the evidence, simply think up foolish ideas, which create futility, and mind-boggling confusion. Their so-called wisdom is, in fact, complete stupidity.

Consider the wisdom of George Washington, “Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”

It is clearly a denial of truth to suppose that one can maintain morality without God.

Dear Father, thank you for the truth of God. Forgive me for my foolish denials of truth. Empower me to recognize and practice your truth. O, God, bring a revival to our nation. Destroy the works of our enemy and firmly establish the truth of God in this nation. Bless our civil leaders with your wisdom. Give them the fortitude and grace to lead us by your truth. In Jesus’ name, I pray. AMEN

Let us praise God for his truth and live by it everyday,

Pastor Smith
