Encountering God

“Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life. But now you must get rid of all such things– anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator.”
Colossians 3:5-10 (NRS)

Frank Outlaw wrote, “Watch your thoughts; they become words.Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”

The Bible always expresses the relationship between God and believers as a family relationship. Yet, the record shows that since the beginning, God has invaded human history on an individual basis.

In the Scripture above, Paul exhorts us to commit to a personal communion and communication with God. Such communion produces a continuous life-changing experience of holiness. It becomes our daily bread. It develops our lives so that we may constantly encounter God.

Dear Father, thank you for coming into human history and communing with us. Forgive me for the times I have failed to commune with you. Deliver me from the cares of this life so that I may commune with everyday. Empower me to lay aside every thing that would hinder an encounter with you. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for his Word and live in its truth,
