“And they heard the voice of Jehovah Elohim, walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah Elohim, in the midst of the trees of the garden. And Jehovah Elohim called to Man, and said to him, Where art thou?” Genesis 3:8-9 (DBY)
There in the Eden paradise, God reveals the two major truths that he is a person as well as majesty. Not only has he given personal deliberation and thought to the creative activities (Gen. 1:26), he actually walks with Adam and Eve in the cooler part of the day. Several other Genesis passages also express the personal traits of the Creator. We see his majesty in the creative acts themselves. But I want to note that God is not some sort of cosmic energy or impersonal and indifferent principle. Rather, God is the all-wise and eternal one who has a voice and is present in the cool of my day. He is the living God who thinks, feels and hurts when I hide from him. He approves my obedience and disapproves my disobedience but he is always interested in my life.
Dear Father, thank you for your personal interest in my life. Forgive me for the times I have tried to hide from you. Draw me nearer to you and increase my love for you. Empower me to live my life so that you never have to ask where I am. In Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN
Let us praise God for his personal relationship and rejoice in it,
Pastor Smith
