Following Instructions

“You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?” Galatians 5:7 (NAU)

Johnny went to the doctor to have his annual physical. The doctor discovered that his cholesterol was elevated. He prescribed a strict diet of more vegetables, less fat, and less caffeine. He also explained that medication was the next step if this diet didn’t work.

A month later, Johnny was surprised as his doctor checked him then rechecked him and left the room. The doctor’s behavior made Johnny uneasy. He braced himself for bad news. When the doctor came back, he said, “You are so much better, I thought perhaps the nurse or I had made a mistake. What have you been doing to lower your cholesterol?” Joe replied, “Doc, I only did what you said, ‘more vegetables, less fat, less coffee.’” Now it was the doctor’s turn to be surprised, “I give everyone those instructions. You’re the first patient who actually followed them.”

God gives all of us the same instructions. Wouldn’t it be great if we would all follow his instructions?

Dear Father, thank you for your mercy and grace. Forgive us our faults, failures, and the sin that does so easily hinder us. Deliver us from every temptation and evil. Enable us to obey your command and will. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for his truth and live to obey it,
