Guidance

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not be presenting his own ideas; he will be telling you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.” John 16:13 (NLT)

Commander Olav Olivinski was nervous. The Captain had ordered him to take the ship out of harbor and get underway. It was his first time to have this responsibility. Understandably, he would not be calm again until they were out to sea, without any hitches. With meticulous precision, Olav followed his checklist and finally ordered the crew to weigh anchor and set sail. Everything had gone smoothly and Olav’s chest swelled with pride. The Captain had not come on deck once during the sail away. That was a good sign. It meant that he trusted Olav completely and suspected no problems.

The communications officer brought him back from his reverie, handing Olav a message from their base. It read, “Congratulations on the manner in which you took the ship out to sea. You followed your orders perfectly and achieved the assignment with only one flaw. You forgot to take me with you.” D. J. Jones, Captain

How many times have we set sail without the Captain on board? He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. He has promised to guide us into all truth. Those who start their day in consultation with him will not leave him behind. Those who consult him for their every need will find him available and ready to guide them. Life’s setbacks and difficulties, big as camels or as small as gnats, are no problem for our Captain.

Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Empower us with the confidence to follow your commands and walk in the Spirit. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for his plan and live for his purpose,
