“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:12 (KJV)
To most of us, it is quite clear that “no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God” (v. 11). But believers must not be deterred from seeking God by that fact. Rather, be encouraged by these three facts. First, God did not give us the world’s spirit. Second, instead, he gave us his Spirit. And third, the reason God gave us his Spirit is so that we may know and receive the blessings God gives to those who love him.
The fact that God would freely give us anything is enough to make believers shout his glory! But he goes beyond that and freely gives us his Spirit so that we may know the difference between his free blessings and the artificial, counterfeit, unsatisfying
“fool’s gold,” which the world offers. Sensitivity to the Spirit will keep us from the enemy’s deceptions and traps.
Dear Father, thank you for your Spirit and the gifts you bless us with. Forgive us for the times we have not relied upon your Spirit. Enable us to listen more intently and hear your voice so that we may truly know your blessings. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN
Let us praise God for his Spirit and listen to him,
