FRIENDS!

“I thank my God every time I remember you.” Philippians 1:3 (NIV)

“Friends, Romans, countrymen lend me your ears.” What a great way to begin a speech! It identifies us with the listeners and puts them at ease. When I think of this famous introduction, however, I always think of those who have impacted my life in some small or significant way.

There have been words of encouragement, cards, letters, phone calls, challenging argument, gifts, and support of various kinds. Friends, who tolerate my weird personality traits. Friends, who laugh with me. Friends, who challenge me to grow and be better. Friends, who respect me despite my faults. Friends, who encourage me to succeed. Friends, who feel my pain. Friends, who are there when I need them. Friends, who support me in my struggles. Friends!

I have also served some wonderful congregations over the years. There are precious memories from each one. In all sincerity, I tell you that I have no recollections of any ‘bad’ events from them. Bobbie and I have friends from each church we have served. I can reminisce and smile as I remember faces, circumstances, etc.

I am grateful to God for these marvelous experiences and wonderful friends.

Dear Father, thank you for you grace and mercy. Thank you for all the wonderful friends you have brought into my life and ministry. Most of all I thank you for my friend and brother, Jesus Christ, who gave his life for my eternal salvation. Enable me to continue giving my life to glorify him. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for friends and be a friend to others,
