The Redemption

“Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 Peter 1:17-19 (NIV)

Many believers today promote material prosperity as a sign of God’s blessings. I find that to be very interesting, since Jesus and the New Testament era believers promoted giving one’s wealth to those less fortunate and in need. The Lord’s attitude and emphasis was on giving not on gaining. Indeed, he taught that a believer actually gained by giving. Just a point to ponder.

In relation to that concept, it is important to note that the Apostle Peter warns us to remember that material wealth, which is perishable, did not redeem us from our sinful lifestyles. Now we may conclude that IF it did not redeem us, THEN silver or gold can not sustain or augment our redemption.

“O the blood of Jesus.” Precious blood. God’s perfect sacrifice. No defects or blemishes. It cleanses us from sin and daily purifies us. Nothing else can compare. Nothing else can take its place. Post modern interpretations will not change God’s redemption plan. “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” It will never lose its power!

Dear Father, thank you for your sacrifice given at Calvary. Thank you for the cleansing blood of the Lamb. May we hold firmly to its eternal saving power. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for his redemption plan and not be deceived,
