But these are written

“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
John 20:30-31 (KJV)

Let’s think about John’s statement. Jesus did many other signs not recorded here. One wonders what other signs he could have done that would have been as significant as the ones we know about. He turned water into wine. He fed more than five thousand people with two fish and five pieces of bread. He walked on water. He stopped storms. He gave sight to the blind; hearing to the deaf; and speech to the non-verbal. He cured paralysis and epilepsy. He cast out demons and raised at least two people from the dead. Truly, he did the works of God. What more evidence does one need?

In addition, he fulfilled all the prophecies concerning God’s Anointed One. He preached the good news of salvation and deliverance to the poor and disenfranchised. He sacrificed himself on the executioner’s cross to bring eternal salvation to mankind. He laid in the tomb for three days completely dead, proving he died, proving he obeyed, and proving he loved. Then on the third day, the Spirit of God raised him from the dead. The Spirit of God rolled the stone from the door of the tomb. The Resurrected Christ walked out of the tomb victorious over death, hell, and the grave! How many other signs do we need?

As marvelous as they may be, let us not be mesmerized by miracles and wonders. Instead, may we be truly awed by the wonder of his sacrifice. May we be truly awed by the miracle of his resurrection. They have been recorded for us so that we will believe in him as the Son of God. And believing in him, we will have life through his name.

Dear Father, thank you for Jesus Christ who died for our sin and rose again to ensure our life. Empower us with unwavering faith and enable us to persevere to the end. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in the resurrection of the Son of God,
