The Light of God

He said, “The LORD came from Sinai and dawned from Seir upon us; he shone forth from Mount Paran; he came from the ten thousands of holy ones, with flaming fire at his right hand. Yes, he loved his people, all his holy ones were in his hand; so they followed in your steps, receiving direction from you, when Moses commanded us a law, as a possession for the assembly of Jacob.”
Deuteronomy 33:2-4 (ESV)

Do you remember when the LORD came into your life? Remember how the dark night faded away as the dawn of his marvelous light shone upon you? His glory flooded your life and all things became new. Old things passed away! He took away your sin and gave you his righteousness!

It is true that he loves his people. “For God loved the world to such an extent that he gave his only son to die on the Cross that whosoever would believe in him would not perish but would have eternal life” (John 3:16 SyS). All who receive him as Lord and Savior are empowered to be his children (John 1:12). His children are considered his holy ones and they rest in his grace. For “we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8:28 KJV). “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast” (Eph. 2:8-9 NIV).

But such wonderful gifts and blessings are not licenses to live according to the dictates of our personal whims and desires. Rather, we follow his example, walking in the light as he himself is in the light and receiving guidance by his Word. “Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the LORD” (Isaiah 2:5 NAS). “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:5-7 NRS).

Dear Father, thank you for loving us so much. We are so grateful to you for the power of the Holy Spirit who transforms us daily into the image of your Son. Enable us, O Lord, to truly walk in your light and yield ourselves to be cleansed from all sin. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
