“Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.” Psalm 96:6 (KJV)
Considering current social emphasis, one might conclude that the status of “unfortunate” falls upon every one who does not fit a certain physical mold (i.e., youth, beauty, accepted weight and shape, IQ, etc). In addition, one must be engaged in sex, a romantic relationship, physical activities, and “the good life.” It is amazing how many people succumb to such false concepts. They let advertisers and other media measure their lives and issue blessing or woe upon them. What is the right body shape? What is the youthful look? What is the gorgeous hairstyle? Whose who in physical and healthful activity? All they have heard is the unconditional condemnation of someone who is most often greedily pushing a product, service, or lifestyle.
In Matthew 6:28-30, Jesus points out the unqualified value of every human. Every human being is naturally beautiful because of his/her created image. The most glamorous person you can imagine is not as magnificent as the wild flowers dancing free in the fields. If you must compare yourself on some level, then measure yourself by the Lord’s scale. It will be just and acceptable. Individuality is valuable. No other human being is worthy to be copied. The life of the Kingdom of God makes its citizens more beautiful than even the flowers of the field. “God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you”?
In 1 Timothy 2:9-10 and 1 Peter 3:3-4, Both Paul and Peter instruct us to be more concerned about the inward person than the outward person. By doing this, we will have a greater impact on those around us who are not followers of Christ. The outside is important and we should always “put our best foot forward.” But remember what Mother said: “Beauty is only skin deep.” She was of course referring to the physical. Be sure that the interior is beautiful and the exterior will glow with beauty.
Dear Father, thank you for the beauty you bestow upon us through Christ, our Lord. Empower us with the strength and beauty found in your sanctuary. In the name of Jesus, I pray. AMEN
Be encouraged today by the beauty from the sanctuary,
