A Merry Heart

“A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance” Proverbs 15:13 (KJV)

Spring and Summer brings out the things that Fall and Winter seems to take away. Most of us love the freshness that Spring brings and the thoughts of the Summer days that are just around the corner. I have a bird feeder on the front lawn. I love watching all the various birds that congregate there and eat.

Watching the birds brings a time of quietness and relaxation and sometime a smile. Recently as I watched the birds, a squirrel crawled up the birdfeeder pole and tried very hard to get to the birds’ food. The squirrel stretched its front legs and paws as far as it could without letting go of the pole. It finally achieved the feat and was able to get some of the bird feed. But as the squirrel was eating and stretching to get more food, it lost its grip on the feeder and fell to the ground. I laughed as I realized the squirrel was not hurt. It of course, went back up the pole again and continued its stretch for food.

It feels good to smile even when things are not always going right in our world. The squirrel was not deterred by the fact that it fell. It got up and repeated the process again.

Let us remember, in all that life brings we are never alone. We can always find something to be cheerful about. God has promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us. That should make us cheerful in whatever comes our way. He is always there to supply our need just as the He supplied the need for the squirrel. Sometimes we just need to be persistent and try a little harder to fine the joy in the events of our lives.

Dear Father, thank you for caring for us. Thank you for giving us a cheerful attitude. Help me today to find joy in all that comes my way and know that a merry heart makes a cheerful countenance. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Be encouraged today with a merry heart and a cheerful attitude,

Bobbie Smith
