“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV)
Everything that a child needs, to live and grow is supplied by the child’s parents. They provide everything within their power. The parents do not always supply everything the child’s desires and wishes, but they provide all those things that pertain to living and growing.
In like manner, God has provided “All things that pertain to life and godliness.” Everything you and I need to help us make it to heaven has all been provided through Christ, “who called us” and who “granted to us his precious and very great promises.” God provides all we need so that w can share His holiness, since we have escaped from the corruption of both our sinful desires and the world. I wonder if 21st century Christians truly appreciate the value of this escape. Do we truly grasp what such escape means to us eternally?
Dear Father, thank you for allowing us to know you. Thank you for providing everything we need to make it to the end. Thank you for your great and precious promises. Enable us to truly know the eternal value of those promises. Empower us with the faith and fortitude to resist the world and to receive your holy nature. In Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN
Be encouraged today in God’s provisions,
