God Is Our Strength

“When my heart was embittered And I was pierced within, Then I was senseless and ignorant; I was like a beast before You. Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand. With Your counsel You will guide me, And afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:21-26 (NAS)

John knew that he needed some time alone with God. The pain in his heart told him that God alone could solve the problem. John was already becoming bitter about the betrayal. For the last few days, he had been raging around like a bull in a china shop. He felt like someone had thrown a dart through his heart. Despite the hurt and discouragement, John was coming back to his senses and could feel the Spirit’s pull toward some prayer time. He sensed that God was offering his hand.

John couldn’t talk with his pastor because his pastor was the one who had betrayed him. He bitterly decided that he was alone in the world and couldn’t depend on anyone. As the tears flowed, John began to hear someone talking. At first he thought he was dreaming. Then he looked around the woods where he had parked. No one was visible. But he distinctly heard these words, “Lo I am with you always and I will never leave you nor forsake you.” John got out of his car and fell on his knees. He poured out his heart to the only one who knew his pain and despair. He thanked God for being his rock and his inheritance.

Dear Father, thank you for your strength. Thank you for your faithful counsel and direction. Thank you for being our inheritance. You are indeed the only one in whom we can trust. For myself and all those who read these words, I pray that we will refuse to be deceived by the things of this world. Heavenly Father, you are our rock of strength so empower us with determination to firmly hold your unchanging hand. I ask it all in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in God’s strength and faithfulness,
