Hot Dogs and Hamburgers

“From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.” John 1:16 (NIV)

How many hot dogs and hamburgers can one person take? I suppose the answer has to do with the person. Last Sunday, our church enjoyed a cook-out after the morning worship service . . . tons of hotdogs and hamburgers; potato salad; potato chips; baked beans; and ice tea or sodas. A lot of hot dogs were not eaten.

Last night, our church enjoyed an ice cream fellowship to kick-off our “Celebrate Jesus” month. Yes, you got it; we also enjoyed the re-heated hotdogs and hamburgers left from Sunday’s cook-out.

We are all anticipating tomorrow’s 4th of July events and family cook-outs, which of course will include hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, potato chips, baked beans, and ice tea or sodas. Kind of makes one wonder about the originators of this holiday. What were they thinking? Quick and simple, obviously. This points to who was put in charge of food preparation . . . men who didn’t know how to cook. Mom makes the potato salad, potato chips come in a bag, and baked beans come in a can. Quick and simple. So, why does it take so long for Dad to get the hot dogs and hamburgers ready? Oh, the humor of human ingenuity!

We Americans are so blessed with the fullness of freedoms received by enormous expense and sacrifice. Our freedoms can only be properly expressed as one blessing after another. Such physical liberties should remind us of the spiritual liberty received through the fullness of God’s grace. Through His sacrifice on Calvary, we have all received one blessing after another. Oh, the wonder of His wisdom!

Dear Father, thank you for the fullness of your grace. May we celebrate it every day! This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in the blessings of God’s grace,
