Trust In God’s Purpose

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:20-21 (NIV)

In our society, much has been said about leaving a legacy for future generations. Human beings have created all sorts of schemes based on personal beliefs and concerns. Many of those schemes do not even consider God at all. Wisdom, however, would dictate that one should think about the Lord’s prevailing purpose. Psalm 2 describes it quite clearly. Let us not deceive ourselves. God is all-powerful. Remember, his purpose will prevail over all other agendas. All of our plans and purposes will ultimately fail, if they do not align with his.

Perhaps, we might be wise to understand God’s purpose and realize that our purpose is to partner with him in achieving his purpose. What greater accolade could future generations give you than, “He/She worked with God to achieve God’s purpose”?

Carefully consider the plans in your heart. Each moment of our lives is focused toward the ultimate culmination of God’s purpose. We might ask ourselves, “How do my plans fit into the Lord’s plan and purpose?” A wise person will adjust them accordingly.

God’s purpose? His Son will be acknowledged and worshipped as the King of Kings. “Blessed are all who take refuge (trust) in him.”

Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Grant that we may understand your purpose and align our plans with it. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in God’s purpose,
