“We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” Romans 8:22-25 (NIV)
Approximately 73 days until the Lord’s birthday! Between now and then, we deal with Octoberfests, goblins, veterans, and Thanksgiving celebrations. In addition, we rush around buying gifts for friends, family, children, and grandchildren. And the anticipation builds. We cannot make it arrive any faster, we simply wait patiently (or not) for the “best day of the year.” That day reminds us of the eternal hope for which we patiently await.
If we allow it, there is plenty all around to drag us down in attitude and spirit. I refuse to depress you with a list. The realities of your life are always before you and you are graphically aware of them. The news media are daily dishing up depression and despair, but there is hope. God is in his place! We have hope! The daily doses of “dark, despair, and agony” should only remind us to hope in the One who walks with us in the shadow of the valley.
In this life, there will always be obstacles, tests of patience and faith, dreams on hold, unfinished projects, and unknown factors. We acknowledge the realities, but the obstacles and weaknesses we face here will never defeat our hope in “the redemption of our bodies.” Our spirits are already redeemed! That is why we eagerly wait and groan for the bodily transformation of the resurrection. “For in this hope we were saved,” and “we wait for it patiently” undeterred by the realities of this life.
Dear Father, thank your for the hope we have in Christ Jesus. Create in us a spiritual fortitude that rejects all doubt and fear. Empower us with renewed hope in the resurrection. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today with eager patience in hope,
