Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6 (NIV)
The love of money is a real issue for most people, even the Hebrew believers of the first century. Some would say “I can’t help myself,” but the author of this first century letter to the Hebrews clearly indicates that WE can and should keep (our) lives free from the love of money.
Of course, as this author indicates, the issue is not money but our personal contentment. And our contentment is directly connected to our level of trust in God. He has promised: I will never leave you nor forsake you, but do we act and talk like we really believe Him? Keeping our lives free from the love of money is about claiming confidence in God.
Confidence in God works out in behaviors and attitudes that show the world: the Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
Dear Father, thank you for being our helper. Empower us with greater faith and confidence that we may truly be confident in you. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today in your confidence in God,
