Confidence In God’s Word

“You understand, O LORD; remember me and care for me. Avenge me on my persecutors. You are long-suffering — do not take me away; think of how I suffer reproach for your sake. When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.” Jeremiah 15:15-16 (NIV)

What a great comfort to know that no matter what troubles us, we can go God with it. We can appeal our case before His court. We can present our needs to Him. It doesn’t matter whether others acknowledge us or not. It doesn’t matter whether others believe us or not. God knows and understands us clearly.

In the midst of our need, God will provide strength and comfort to us. He will defend us against the enemy and convince those who are watching our lives that we are His servants. It is right for us to request His patience and a long life to serve Him.

When we suffer for His name and purpose, we may expect that He will vindicate us because it is His honor and interests that are at stake. It is because we serve God that the enemy hates us. And since we are His servants, we are confident of His sustaining presence and power.

The source of Jeremiah’s confidence is God’s own words. He received them totally. He considered them carefully. He digested them like a hungry person welcomes food. And God’s word became the spirit and blood of his life. In order to possess the prophet’s confidence in God we must go to the same source as he did.

Dear Father, thank you for the confidence we have in you through Christ. Help us to let your Word become the spirit and blood of our lives. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
