Truly Listening

“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. But now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son.” Hebrews 1:1-2 (NLT)

“So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.” Hebrews 2:1 (NLT)

The war over how God speaks (or if He exists and speaks in any manner) has been raging in human society for millennia. Science claims that humans are a small and insignificant part of the universe. And for many post-moderns, there is no place for God in their knowledge. To them, God is a subjective element and easily ignored. This “tolerance of pluralism” influence, since elementary school, has created hearing problems for many believers.

Hearing God isn’t difficult, however, when we consider that the Kingdom of God is among us. In addition, God permeates the whole of reality in the universe. Nothing that human ingenuity can think or devise will eradicate this truth. He is right here beside us. And we can have his Word in our hands, mind and heart. He will never contradict his Word.

If we are having difficulty hearing him, perhaps the issue is with us and not him.

Dear Father, thank you for speaking to us through your Son and our Lord, Jesus Christ. Enable us to listen to him carefully and hear his instructions through your Word. In the name of Jesus I pray. AMEN

Be encouraged today as you truly listen to God,
