Live By Faith

“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” Hebrews 11:8 (NIV)

“Called to go to a place” he had never been or knew existed. Abraham only had a promise that “he would later receive (this place) as his inheritance.” What a challenge! Not knowing but going anyway . . . not seeing but believing just the same, that is the essence of faith. By faith, Abraham “obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”

Like Abraham, disciples of Christ have also been called to go to a place where we have never been. We only have the promise that it will be our inheritance, yet we believe the one who sealed the promise with his own blood.

Living by faith is much like driving in an impenetrable fog. You can’t see clearly where you are going but you trust the one who called you. “We live by faith, not by sight” (2Co 5:7 NIV). We know that we simply need to obey his instructions. The promised land spans before us . . . soon we shall no longer “see a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now we know in part, then we shall know fully” (1Co 13:12).

Dear Father, thank you for your promise of an inheritance through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Grant that we may obey and live by faith. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today as you live by faith,
