Preparing the Way of the Lord

“I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord” (Joh 1:23 KJV).

Preparations . . . are we prepared for the season’s greetings and celebrations? It is unlikely that anyone will ask us who we are, but like John the Baptist we want to prepare our lives — words — actions — and attitudes for “the way of the Lord.” In addition, we want to help others catch the true meaning of Christmas. Joyous celebrations of Christ’s birth will give us opportunity to invite people of every social strata into our Christian celebrations.

People are more susceptible to the Christ-child’s message during this season. It offers a great occasion to reach out to lost souls, broken by life’s circumstances. Something wonderful is coming! Christmas day will arrive soon! Christmas is a marvelous holiday, but the one that was born on that first Christmas is even more marvelous! He is why we Christians should celebrate and invite others to celebrate with us. No, not more parties . . . not more food or presents. Rather, celebrating a deeper experience with the one who was born, died, and is resurrected to give us life.

Most churches will hold some sort of Christmas events. All our neighbors, friends, and family members who don’t have a church home can be invited to these celebrations. Who knows? Maybe they will get personally introduced to Christ and the fellowship of his saints. The joyful worship experience may get them started on a spiritual journey that brings them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

What a wonderful Christmas gift that would be.

Dear Father, thank you for the way of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Enable us to prepare the way for everyone to meet him. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today and prepare the way of the Lord,
