“For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Pro. 2:6 NAS)
Imagine what our world would be like if we all just listened to God. Husbands and wives with more knowledge and greater understanding . . . there’s a dream. Children being taught and learning truth. Happier families, as well as a joyful society. Listening to God would cure most societal problems. No courts, attorneys, or prisons. Psychiatric hospitals would not exist. Politicians with integrity and honest motives would lead us. Government would run smoothly and efficiently.
Of course, the world believes it is a pipe dream, but it isn’t. Listen to God . . . it will change your world. He gives wisdom where it is lacking. We simply need to ask him for more of it. To all who ask him, He issues wisdom without insult (James 1:5).
The problem? We human beings want to rely on our own understanding rather than trusting God with all our hearts (Prov. 3:5). We believe that human “wisdom” is greater than God’s. In our infinite wisdom, we are confident of our own strength. Yet, we would do well to read Paul’s conclusions (1 Corinthians 1:25-29). We should listen to God because He gives knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.
The Word of God . . . a source of enlightenment and comprehension to those with an open mind (Psalm 119:130).That’s the problem. There are very few open minds toward God. Most are closed and have locked God out. It is called the pride of life. But an open-minded person treasures God’s Word in his/her heart for further consideration and to guard against wrong (Psalm 119:11).
Human ingenuity would never have crucified the Son of God to provide eternal salvation for mankind, but that is the wisdom of God — the righteousness of God — our sanctification, our redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30). If we would just listen to him, we would know more, understand more, and be wiser.
Dear Father, thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. Strengthen our resolve that we might listen to you. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today in the wisdom of God,
