“And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.” (Gen. 5:3-5 KJV)
Where did we come from? What is our heritage? Who were our ancestors? These are good questions and profitable for careful consideration. We might be surprised or disappointed to discover the answers to them.
No matter what our lineage, we can be certain that we favor – look like – resemble someone in our ancestry. It may accurately be said that we are in the likeness and after the image of our parentage. That is the nature of human genetics.
It was the time of life and hope. It was the time of death and despair. Adam was birthing children. Civilization was developing. But the most they had to hope for was a promise that God had made to the serpent in the Garden (Gen. 3:15). Until it was fulfilled, they died . . . all of them.
But in the fullness of time, God fulfilled his promise in Christ on Calvary. The serpent bruised the heal of Eve’s descendant. But her descendant, Christ, crushed the head of the serpent. In simple terms, Christ conquered the serpent by defeating his tools . . . death, the grave, and hell. And that changed everything. Hallelujah!!!!!
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1Peter 1:3-5 KJV).
Dear Father, thank you for the living hope we have through Christ. Our faith is steadfast in your power to keep us. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today by the living hope,
