“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:13-16 NIV)
God’s needlepoint . . . God’s handiwork. He knit together the person we are, and as incomprehensible as it is, He knit us together while we were still an embryonic cell. Praise his holy name! The wonder of this is more marvelous than tongue can tell. Suffice it to say, with the Psalmist, that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.”
We know full well that God’s needlepoint is wonderful! Look at yourself in a mirror and humbly acknowledge that you are a wonderful work of God. Mother always said, “Beauty is only skin deep.” Another wise person said, “Beauty is as beauty does.” And we can all acknowledge the truth behind these proverbs. Yet, no matter what the level of our physical beauty, we need to acknowledge ourselves as the wonderful work of his hands. In that mirror, see God’s miracle and be astonished. It should start a rumble of worship in your soul.
Consider that when you were only a twinkle in the secret place of your father’s mind, God already knew your complete stature. After conception, when your cells were being weaved together, God looked at your unformed body, but saw you complete and whole. He still sees you today. He created who you are, don’t you think He deserves to be praised?
All of your days and mine are ordained for us by the One who created us. Don’t you think we ought to know him . . . serve him? Our entire life was written in his book, even before we breathed our first breath. His eternal foreknowledge and wisdom formed us. This knowledge is too wonderful for me. I cannot fully grasp it. But it gets me excited and makes me want to shout his praises. Hallelujah! Glory to his holy name!
Dear Father, thank you for your awesome gift of life. Empower us with an increasing measure of faith that we might achieve all you have written about us in your book. This I humbly pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today by the wonders of God,
