Friends

“But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.” (3John 1:14-1 KJV)

It is a time for sorrow. It is a time for joy. Today my friend, Greg Wagnon is being buried. For us, we are sad because our relationship with Greg has ended. For our friend, we are joyful – we celebrate – because he is rejoicing in paradise. His earthly journey has ended, but his eternal rest continues uninterrupted.

Greg loved singing and was a talented singer. When he stood before a congregation to sing, the Holy Spirit would anoint him and he sang for the glory of God. The Holy Spirit would ride the sound waves of that music through the congregation and people would be touched by Greg’s singing because he sang for the glory of God. Yes, Greg sang beautifully. Yes, he was talented. Yet, it was neither his talent nor its excellence that touched people. What moved people was the Spirit of God in Greg’s singing, because he sang for the glory of God. Today his soul is singing in the presence of the Lord!

All that could be done for him in this world has been done. We have exercised our faith with him and for him. Through the years, he and I have prayed together and for each other. Along with other friends and his family, I have supported him in prayer and faith during his time in the hospital. If I could talk with my friend, I would say to him what John said in today’s scriptural passage.

It is my intent to come see you soon in your new home. Then we shall once again talk face to face. Rest now. All our friends love you and appreciate you. Do us a favor and greet all our friends over there. Tell them we are coming too.

Dear Father, thank you for friends who are closer than brothers. Grant that we may be faithful to the end. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today with your friends,
